THE BANDS

  • bands

Formed in 2003 Tucson, Arizona The American Black Lung is a band that find the contemporary culture in music bland and disgusting. Johnny Detroit wanted to display his roots with his love for soul and his admiration of 60's British rock 'n' roll like the Who and the Stones. While growing up in the isolated desert town of Catalina he met Phillip Holman, another misfit, who was not interested in pea-brained fratitude. these youths refused to participate in playing 'Who's The Daddy?' like most wasted youth do in small towns. In a matter of months, Dhusty Rhodes, who was fascinated by the foundations that the fathers of rock put down in Memphis and could not help but feel a mystic union with southern blues and would frequently talk to Easy E about how rock really needed a punch in the jaw.

After they got a couple tours lined up that were full of stories ranging from starvation, playing shows where kids in the crowd got naked, to their erratic roadie diving into Fat Bill's drums. Other tales involved yelling at racists, thievery, freezing to death in garages while the owners of the house are having a party, sleeping in the van and traveling through the humid swamps of Georgia with no AC, walking intoxicated through the streets of Hamburg while German Prostitutes are trying to cop a feel, etc. You can't help but admire the grime on the boots of this up and coming band... A band that does not mind suffering like the bands that saved their lives did. A band that is not afraid to stand alone in their own genre or be ripped apart or shunned by music publications whose only purpose is to keep the dangerous bands like ABL and our tourmate brothers at bay.

It almost seems like nothing exciting is happening in the terrible two-thousands and awful boybands with pretty haircuts and tattoos bands that just produce an over abundance of terrible music. But these guys plan to terrorize the industry with their punk D-I-Y ethics that they grew up with in the desert, where community is key and being yourself only helps you thrive.

So they shine on, and if you see them at a show near you, stop by and tip the whiskey jar. They have two records out, and rumor has it are in the process of recording a new one. And no, we do not endorse Rease thongs yet.

In 2007, Tucson, AZ’s Holy Rolling Empire began captivating audiences and turning heads all over the great southwest. After a self released 6 song EP and numerous trips up the west coast, the group earned themselves a record deal with Newport Beach’s Burning House Records in 2008 and immediately began working on a full length release.

Combining the intensity, psychedelia and creativity of classic rock from 60's and 70's with catchy modern pop riffs and haunting melodies, Holy Rolling Empire crafted a unique and powerful sound that will be well depicted in their debut full length “Gigantis.

Friday November 20, 2009 saw the final performance of the Honorary Title at a sold out show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. The Honorary Title began several years ago as a moniker for Brooklyn singer-songwriter Jarrod Gorbel’s solo folk musings, but later evolved into the full-fledged quartet responsible for 2007’s critically acclaimed Scream and Light Up the Sky (Doghouse/Warner Bros.) Gorbel has come full circle this year, stepping out from behind the Honorary Title name and recording two remarkable new discs.

His recently-released tour EP, Ten Years Older and the upcoming Devil’s Made A New Friend – Gorbel’s debut solo LP – mine classic soul, traditional folk and Americana, incorporating strings, horns and female backing vocals for a sound more lush and organic than any of his previous work. The Honorary Title released their debut album, Anything Else But the Truth on Doghouse Records in 2004. Produced by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Guster), the album combined the unbridled passion of Gorbel’s vocals with pop hooks and keenly observed, poetic lyrics.

K Será

Starting as a one-man project, K Será has since grown into a full-fledged 5 piece sonic beast. After releasing 2 EP's the band managed to cultivate enough attention and acclaim to gain the notice of Casey Crascenzo (The Dear Hunter) who signed on to produce their forthcoming LP due out this fall. Word of this pairing was announced through an AbsolutePunk exclusive, to which fans and critics voiced approval as Casey announced, "I'm going to produce the shit out of it."... We here at Burning House do not doubt Casey for one moment.

K Será bring a hugely theatrical flair to the arena of experimental indie rock. There are times on the group's new EP, *The Cantos II*, where K Será sounds more like a sonic circus than an ordinary band. And we mean that in a great way. - PureVolume

K Será is another band emerging as an AP.net favorite - AbsolutePunk

Louisville, Kentucky native Christopher Browder may look unassuming enough, but he’s a man who’s both prone to embracing what’s in front of him and running with it, and an artist who’s not afraid to look over his shoulder for inspiration. His heartfelt second album, “Dig Up The Dead”, released under the moniker Mansions, is unflinching in its honesty, and intense in its ability to engage and emote in equal measure. Recorded in the various houses and apartments Browder found himself in, all across the Southeast, over a six-month period, this deeply personal album acts as a candid and compelling look into one man’s psyche, in the midst of change and nostalgia. And while previous touring-mates joined him on some tracks, Browder completed the lion’s share of recording alone. It’s an impressive follow-up to March 2009’s critically acclaimed “New Best Friends” (Doghouse Records) and last spring’s well-received B- sides compilation. In support of “Dig Up The Dead” - before its April 5th, 2011 release through Burning House Records / King Bones Recordings - Browder is hitting the road with label-mate, friend and Honorary Title frontman, Jarrod Gorbel. Mansions live shows are as unique and all-inclusive as Browder’s music - playing, as he does, with a touring band made up of a variety of both friends and strangers; a collaborative endeavor he’s previously showed off while on tour with the likes of Get Up Kids and David Bazan.
